Mona Shaikh’s Minority Reportz
Overcoming Mona’s tumultuous and abusive childhood from a restrictive conservative Muslim Pakistani background takes strength, courage, and a definite moral compass. Mona has those qualities in spades…
Mona Shaikh started out Minority Reportz at The Comedy Store in Sep. 2015 out of a need to see "other" darker-skinned female comedians like herself on stage. Comedians like Tiffany Haddish, Iliza Schlesinger, Nikki Glaser, Finesse Mitchell, have all participated in Minority Reportz.
Having grown up with physical abuse from parents & her 4 older brothers, to almost being married off to a 40 year old at the age of 17 to being a victim of a hate crime at Beverly Center, Mona has overcome a lot and she isn't slowing down anytime soon.
Nothing is more badass than fighting for what you believe in. Having grown up with physical abuse from parents & her 4 older brothers, to almost being married off to a 40 year old at the age of 17 to being a victim of a hate crime at Beverly Center, Mona has overcome a lot and she isn't slowing down anytime soon. Since she arrived in America, Mona has moved the needle in fighting social and political causes from civil rights to uncivil male behavior issues amongst fellow comics. Mona has a South Asian sensibility with strong Americanized values cherishing the First Amendment—the right to bear witness with a big freedom-loving mouth that raises eyebrows and temperatures. With her offbeat sense of humor Shaikh is a non-uptight tightrope walker who commits serious oralgami; unfolding the spoken word while striving to maintain equilibrium whilst dealing with harsh and conflicting forces. With half of her life spent in a prominent conservative Muslim household in Pakistan, and the other immersed with America’s entertainment and culture, Mona knew she was set out to break boundaries.
Today Mona resides in Los Angeles, Calif., pursuing her career as a comedian and actor while developing her upcoming One-Hour Special and Comedy TV series. She also made history by becoming the first Pakistani female Comedian to headline Hollywood Improv.
